The Boreal Forest. Your New Classroom!
Yukon WILDE School’s Experiential Field Trip (EFT) program turns the Boreal forest into a high-performance laboratory, moving beyond the "day out of the classroom" to provide a rigorous, curriculum-aligned pathway for your students.

Your students shouldn't just read about the world—they should live in it.
Yukon WILDE School offers immersive, curriculum-aligned Field Trips that turn the Boreal forest into a living laboratory. From tracking wildlife in winter to navigating the Taiga in spring, our programs bridge deep nature connection with academic excellence.

Primary and Junior: Sparking Wonder
For our youngest learners, the forest is a playground of inquiry. We move past passive instruction into sensory-rich discovery.
- Animal Antics (Fall, Winter, Spring): Students examine pelts and skulls to understand the characteristics and diversity of Boreal forest residents.
- Touch the Earth (Fall, Winter, Spring): A sensory-focused exploration featuring sound maps, scent walks, and games like "bat and moth" to learn about specialized animal senses.
- Snow Science (Winter): Through the lens of the water cycle, students investigate snowpack layers, insulating properties, and even create a snow cream treat.
- Bird Investigators (Fall, Winter, Spring): Let curiosity take flight while learning the language and unique adaptations of our feathered friends.
Junior and Intermediate: Skills for the North
As students grow, our programs shift toward competency and independence. We provide the tools to measure, manage, and thrive in the wild.
- Wilderness Survival (Fall, Winter, Spring): An active program where teams master shelter building, fire skills, and emergency preparedness.
- Forest Ecology (Fall, Spring): Math and science collide as students measure tree height and volume, and observe growth through tree coring demonstrations.
- Navigation 101 (Fall, Spring): Students test conventional and natural navigation techniques, using compasses to complete cooperative scavenger hunts.
- Dirt Nerds (Fall, Spring): Discover the ground beneath your feet by sampling soils and exploring their role in filtering groundwater and maintaining equilibrium.
The Boreal Classroom is Open
Our field trips are more than just a day out of the building; they are purpose-built learning journeys designed to support academic and personal growth. Every program is aligned with B.C. and Yukon Curriculum standards, ensuring that "fun" and "rigorous" are never mutually exclusive.
- Geology at the Rock Gardens: Explore the rock cycle and resource extraction through "tasty" labs.
- Canoeing at Chadburn Lake: Launch into confidence with certified instructors teaching proper paddle technique and teamwork.
- Wetland Wonders: Sample ponds for macroinvertebrates and use dichotomous keys to identify local biodiversity.
The Yukon wilderness is waiting for your class!
